This 70-ton offset three-bay hopper represents the Baltimore & Ohios heavy coal and mineral operations from the late steam era into the early diesel years. B&O offset hoppers like this were a mainstay in coal drags, moving anthracite and bituminous coal from mines to power plants, industries, and interchange points across the region. The offset-side design reflects durable late-1930s and 1940s construction, built for strength and efficient unloading under constant service.
