The 209-2100 series is a commuter train that began operation in 2009 to replace the 113 and 211 series that were in operation in the Boso region.

All carriages have been converted from carriages that were in operation on other lines, with semi-cross seats in the front car and toilets in the middle cars.

There are 6-car and 4-car formations, and these are coupled together to form a maximum of 10 carriages.
